Her love of Gaelic song came about one summer 18 years ago by chance, when she was writing her Master’s thesis at Aberdeen University. In fact, she won the Traditional Singing prize at last year’s Mod. She regularly participates in and wins prizes at local and national Mods.
She will be singing in her native language, German, which is a bit of a departure for her as normally she sings in Gaelic. Rena has been asked to perform two songs for an upcoming BBC Radio nan Gael programme commemorating World War One. We are very proud of our colleague Rena Gertz, who is based in our office at the John Gray Centre and answers our innumerable questions about data protection! She is East Lothian Council’s Data Protection and Freedom of Information Compliance Officer, but in her ‘other life’, she is also an in-demand singer of traditional Scottish folk music.
